Mother goddess kali sticker. Kālī is the feminine form of “time” or “the fullness of time”. She is first mentioned in the Hindu tradition as a goddess around 600 AD, and these texts “generally place her on the periphery of Hindu society or on the battlefield.”
In general, Hinduists consider her the universal Mother. In the same way, Kali represents the destructive aspect of divinity, and is also destructive of evil and demons. Essentially her early history as a creature of annihilation still has some influence, while more complex tantric beliefs expand her role, placing her as the “ultimate reality” and the “source of being.” Finally the recent pious movement conceives of Kali as the benevolent mother goddess.
