Cat Paper Toy, Black Jack
From our feline lair as Ensemble Project we come to present “Black Cat Jack” cat paper toy. We have designed a new companion for the figure Fox and Rabbit presented during 2015 and 2016 respectively.
The results that you can see in the images correspond to design processes that are carried out in an analogous way. To put it in some way, the engineering we use to create our figures, like the cat’s paper toys. It is based on design processes in which we create sketches by hand, to later imagine what the extended template would be like that will shape the figure in question. The implementation is done by printing, correcting and assembling until reaching the final result.
In this technical part, we do not use software or other technologies besides our hands. While these might make the job easier, we believe design quality comes first. On the other hand, in this way I can control the difficulty of assembling the template design that will finally be presented. Looking for the balance between the difficulty to assemble and the design, creating an attractive product that at the same time can be handled without so much difficulty.
Concept for this Art Toy
In the conceptual part of the proposal we want “Black Cat Jack” to represent courage and power. We decided on a cat, because felines are also associated with the sun, and vitality in some cultures (pumas and jaguars from Latin America).
Since this totem is intuition, psychic powers, and inclinations also towards the world of art, as well as being able to neutralize darkness, and being a guide. We wanted to crystallize this spiritual, physical and energetic force that is exactly what our project needs, in addition to the fact that everyone on the internet is a cats fans. So we hope you enjoy this new proposal and its processes, we will see what results are given in the future.
